Recruiting Carers Now

A career that makes a difference... We are recruiting now for exceptional live-in carers!

The Live-in Homecare Information Hub Members are always looking for talented live-in carers to work in the UK. Live-in care can be a wonderful career for the right person; someone who feels passionately that, first and foremost, they want to help people improve the quality of their lives and live at home for longer. Many strong bonds and friendships have been forged over the years and good carers find the experience deeply rewarding.

What experience do live-in carers need?

Although many live-in carers have previously worked elsewhere in the health sector, professional experience is not always required and applicants may have had personal experience of caring for a family member or other backgrounds. Key qualities for such a role though are universal and care providers look for people with compassion, dedication, common sense, a positive, outgoing personality and a good level of fitness. It’s important that carers are able to work independently, be comfortable dealing with periods of isolation, have confidence with making decisions and are able to run a household.

The benefits of live-in care as a career

It’s certainly a different career option, with carers living away from their own homes for sometimes protracted periods of time, but many alternate staying with family or friends and then caring. This is particularly attractive to those who are ‘empty nesters’, perhaps don’t own their own homes, or come from overseas. In fact, many carers come from all over the world and combine it with travelling. The benefits overall tend to be good too, because living in a client’s home most of the year, with board and lodgings paid for, means overheads are far lower than in a traditional work-life scenario and more disposable income is left over.

Great employment opportunities in live-in homecare

Many of the leading companies listed on this website have excellent employment packages, whether carers are working on an employed or self-employed basis. Indeed a number have won awards for their employment reputation, year after year.

Ongoing professional development for live-in carers

In addition to attractive levels of remuneration, most fully managed and introductory agencies also require carers to join their ongoing professional development schemes so they can refresh their skills and keep up to date with the latest developments. Many companies offer specialist training and qualifications such as the Health and Social Care Diploma, which replaces the former NVQ. Training is varied and thorough, typically covering such topics as understanding dementia, first aid, safeguarding, falls prevention, nutrition, continence care, infection control and many more.

Support, community and management

Carers often also meet up with each other regionally through on-going professional development sessions, so a sense of team and community is established and maintained. Some providers even have their own guest houses and accommodation, enabling carers to stay over between bookings giving those agencies deeper insight into their carers through the increased interaction which is made possible.

Caring can be a demanding job, but many employers offer high levels of support and management. They know the importance of matching carers and clients sympathetically – and ensuring both sides are happy throughout the ongoing one-to-one relationship, with both sides’ wellbeing being met.

Supervision is given where required, plus coaching and mentoring, so carers feel they can deliver the very highest standards of care – and never feel as if they’ve been left to cope alone.

Carers who excel in their roles sometimes go on to have supervisory or managerial roles too. The live-in homecare industry is expanding fast, so there is real scope for career progression.

All our care providers are members of the United Kingdom Homecare Association, ensuring the very highest standards of care.

Testimonials

"I would like to say how very kind and caring your staff are towards my mother, their care is wonderful and she is very fond of both of them. It is a worry for me living 70 miles away but I know she is in good hands."

Mrs P's daughter on Universal Care

I would just like to say what a wonderful carer we had from Consultus. My mother has just passed away and I just thank God that she was there with me. She couldn't have been kinder or more loving, while at the same time being highly efficient. I know my mother hasn't always been the easiest of people, but she seemed to know how to deal with it and still really appreciated her. I have coincided with many carers over these two years, and all were excellent. Thank you for all your help these last two years, we couldn't have managed without you.

Mrs P.G on Consultus

“I don’t see how Vanguard can improve”.

Mr. G.M on Vanguard

“As far as Rob is concerned, he is the most obliging and helpful man ever and I would recommend him for any of your male clients. At the weekend we went to cricket together down at Frinton and tonight we’re going to see Colchester play football. We’ve had a really good week together.”

Mr G on Christies

"In the wake of my mother’s death I wanted to write on behalf of all three of her daughters to express our enormous appreciation of the care that Oxford Aunts provided over the space of six years. We were immensely impressed by the professionalism of the organisation and soon came to realise that we could have 100% confidence in the quality of their carers, the training and constant support they offered them and their total reliability in the provision of continuous cover."

Miss K on Oxford Aunt Care

"Incredibly patient with my father and with a very calming attitude, Janet is an excellent carer. She came to help us at a very difficult time and coped with all the problems in a very efficient and professional way"

Dr. C. H on Trinity HomeCare

“I regard Everycare Eastbourne as an outstanding care organisation. They provided home care support for both my mother and father over a period of nine years. The administration was excellent - well organised, professional, flexible, friendly and highly supportive. The care provided was of the highest quality - it was consistently good, proactive, professional, and treated my parents with kindness and respect. I cannot speak highly enough of the personnel involved with this organisation; they provided a real lifeline of supported independent home living initially for my mother and then for my father. As a family we had complete trust in them; a trust that was well founded.”

Mr. J. C on Everycare Eastbourne

“Catherine has been a Godsend… She has quite literally revolutionised Mum’s existence and for the first time in many years allowed me to have a home / work life balance. She is a credit to you and EnViva. She has single-handedly navigated the minefield of social / ancillary private care, meeting resistance and remained focused and robust. She has cavaliered Mum’s cause and has quite literally enabled so many positive changes: hoisting; wheelchair; language speech therapy; medication changes to name but a few. I know Mum hasn’t been easy to manage but I can honestly say Catherine has been amazing. Thank you.”

Mrs. C.P on EnViva Care Ltd

"My immediate impression of Heidi on her arrival was of a competent, organised and cheerful person. During her time with my wife (who’d had a stroke), she introduced many initiatives, including encouraging her to sing, even with her speech difficulties. She also organised and liaised with the physiotherapist and introduced an exercise regime to help my wife remain supple and regain her mobility. In all, she ensured that my wife’s recovery was completed safely and it was with extreme regret when she eventually left."

Mr. B. C on Agincare

“My mother found the care home environment daunting, particuarly getting involved in group activities with unfamiliar people. This solution of providing one-to-one care in her own home is perfect as it allows her to be sociable in her own environment. My mother has got her life and friends back.”

Mrs L's daughter on The Good Care Group

"I contacted Access Care in an emergency situation when I needed 24/7 care for my father-in-law. They were extremely friendly and professional and very quickly resolved my problem by putting care in place at extremely short notice. Every member of staff I have dealt with has made this situation so much easier to deal with and, should I require this service in the future, I would not hesitate in contacting them."

Mr H on Access Care

“Miracle Workers has provided a very high standard of carers for my father for the last three years. They have all become ‘adopted’ members of the family and we have enjoyed their company as well as being exceptionally grateful for the excellent care that they have provided".

Mrs. N on Miracle Workers Agency Ltd

“I would like to express our appreciation for the excellent care we have received from Guardian Angel Carers over what has been, a very difficult period in our lives.  The quality, flexibility and friendliness of your service is to be admired and is so rare to find. Karen has become like a member of our family and we shall be so sorry to no longer see her on a regular basis.”
